The Langkilde Society, Denmark received:

Langkilde Greetings

For those of you who may not know me, I am connected to the Langkilde family on my mother’s side. My mother, Elisa Langkilde Fundby (born Schultz), was one of Pastor Jens Constantin Schultz and Ingeborg “Tulle” Langkilde’s five daughters. My “morfars” sister (also by the name of Ingeborg) married Christoffer Langkilde, who was my “mormors” brother, and the couple left for New Zealand in 1907.

I was born and lived in Denmark until 1972, when I decided to come to Canada, where I have lived ever since. I am a freelance translator/language instructor (Danish/English/German). While my parents were still alive, I visited Denmark every year. I still try to get back to Denmark as often as I can to visit my family. Only one of the five abovementioned “Langkilde mostre” is still alive. My “moster Ritte”, who is 93 years old and living in Nørresundby.

When I was in Denmark last year in May, my visit coincided with the Langkilde’s Annual General Meeting, so it was a perfect opportunity for me to attend and finally meet my extended family. I came with my first cousin, Marianne Langkilde and her grandson, Marcus, to Randers, which is just a short distance from Aarhus, where I was staying.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the organizers of the ‘generalforsamling’ for a very interesting day. A special thank you goes to Hanne Langkilde for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel at home immediately. I had a wonderful time getting to know many of the Langkilde family members. Also thanks to Niels and Peter Langkilde for your stimulating conversations. Peter, it was a lot of fun meeting you again in Ottawa a few months later, and I am glad that you had a good time with us ‘four ladies’ who escorted you around the city. I hope to see you in Toronto in the future, so you can get to know that part of Canada too.

In the meantime, I look forward to seeing many of the Langkildes again in Atlanta for the Langkilde Reunion in 2005.

Mange hilsener
Lone Langkilde Fundby
