The Langkilde Society, Denmark received:

SOUTH AFRICA

Langkilde South Africa
Greetings to all Langkildes' from South Africa
New summer Camp called Camp Langkilde Knysna.

I have noticed that there is not much information on the official Langkilde family web site about the South
African branch of the Langkilde family. So, to set the
record strait, here's some background information:

Going back to the beginning of our SA roots, my
grandparents Victor Bjerager Langkilde (born
24.11.1892 in Bedstedgaard) and Henny Maire (nee
Stürup) emigrated from Denmark to Johannesburg, South
Africa in 1910. They had three children; Stanley
Stürup (born 9.10.1925), Leonine Anne (born 5.8.1828)
and Bernard (born 7.11.1932)

My father, Stanley Stürup married Betty Mary (nee
Beavis) and had five children; Patricia (born
24.1.1949), Victor (born 24.1.1950), Bernard (born
1.6.1951), Stanley (born 13.7.1957) and myself,
Desmond (born 18.3.1959).

Patricia married Casper Van Wyk and has two children;
Deon and Dawn. Patricia lives in Alberton,
Johannesburg. Deon is married to Cindy and has two
children while Dawn has never married and has a son.

Victor married Mary-Lyn (nee Tenkruiden) and they have
two children, Mark and Kerry-Lee. Neither child is
married and the family live in Benoni, Johannesburg.
Bernard married Esther (nee Domarus) and have two
children, Michael and Tracy-Lee. The family emigrated
from SA to Melbourne, Australia where they currently
live.
Stanley married Leanie and have two children, Dean and
Shaun. Dean is currently studying fashion design while
Shaun is still in senior high school. The family live
in Benoni, Johannesburg.

Desmond married Linda (nee Wallace) and have two
children; Kay and Bo. Kay is studying as a beautician
while Bo is in her second to final year at school.
Both live in Scottburgh in KwaZulu-Natal.
Desmond remarried to Beverley (nee Van Niekerk) and
have two children; Candice and Chase. Candice works as
a summer camp counselor while Chase is just three
years old. The family live in Umhlanga Rocks, Durban.
Getting back to the roots, my aunt Leanine (Leonie)
married Lorrie King and they have four children.
Victor John, who lives in the UK, Megan, Wendy and
Andrew, who still reside in SA.
Leonie passed away in August 2003, our sincere
condolences go out to the King family and to Nigel
Shadbolt who is a recent welcome addition to the
extended Langkilde family tree.

My uncle Bernard married Shanine(?), and they have 2
children, Catherine and Mark(?). I have not had
contact with these cousins for many years so am unsure
of their whereabouts. (or correct names by the looks
of it!)

Going back to the settlers days, my fathers cousin,
Stewart Langkilde's parents also emmigrated to SA at
around the same period as his parents (I think).
As far as I can recollect from my childhood days, his
wife's name was Irene and they have 6 children, Roy,
Dale, Kit, Neil, Kate and Kim.
Again, I have had little contact with these cousins
for may years so am unsure of the latest additions,
whereabouts and family events.

If anyone reading this can shed some light in updating
or correcting any of the above information it would be
appreciated.

I am (and have been for some time) attempting to
create a South African Langkilde family web site, so
any information, e-mail addresses, photographs, news,
and background information will be greatly
appreciated.

Kind regards to all
Des Langkilde

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the response. Very interesting to know that
we are directly related. I was not aware that my
grandfather had a third brother, so this is news to
me. I certainly will keep you informed as I manage to
get more information on our family tree, whereabouts
and new additions.

Nice to hear from you and keep in touch.

Regards Des

Hello Desmond,

Nice to hear from you again. I have just returned
home after work in Ottawa, Canada, meeting Langkildes
over there.
I will put your very informative Langkilde history
on the web and pass it on to our family tree organizer
Jørgen Langkilde for the next update of our records.
My grandfather told me about Victor Bjergager
Langkilde. I am as you may know related to your
branch of our family through my grandfather Christian
Langkilde (brother to Victor and William who went to
SA) - so please let me know as much as you can of
history stories from SA Langkildes, what ever you
may find - it will be much appreciated. Are you
still in the graphic design business or is it
shares, I got a mail once from a Desmond in London
or Spain ? I have good contact in New
Zealand to Langkildes from the Christie family (Poula Langkilde branch).

Keep in touch !
Peter Langkilde

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the response. Very interesting to know that
we are directly related. I was not aware that my
grandfather had a third brother, so this is news to
me. I certainly will keep you informed as I manage to
get more information on our family tree, whereabouts
and new additions.
You are correct, I was involved in investor relations
and marketing for a british company called Microtech
Productions who have their operations plant based in
Estepona, Spain. I lived in Spain for nearly two years
but am now back in South Africa, the land of opportunity and diversity.
I used to be involved in the graphic design business
having owned an advertising agency for 17 years and am
still in the marketing and advertising industry.
I'm currently working on a new project which is a
youth activity resort or 'Summer Camp' as it is called
in the USA. The camp will cater for children between
the ages of 7 to 16 years and will be called Camp
Langkilde Knysna.

Regards Des
